Dr Manahel Thabet appointed as the special envoy of science and technology

Dr. Manahel Thabet, a renowned scientist, has been appointed as the Commonwealth Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Science and Technology. This prestigious role will see her working closely with the Commonwealth Secretariat and key partners to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to technology, research, and innovation.

Dr. Thabet is widely recognized for her extraordinary intellectual achievements and contributions to science. She has frequently been listed among individuals with the highest IQs globally and has received numerous accolades, including being named the Genius of the Year for Asia by the World Genius Directory in 2013. In this new capacity, she will focus on leveraging technology to drive progress across the Commonwealth’s 56 member countries, ensuring that they can meet their development goals more effectively.

Her appointment, announced by Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland KC, underscores the Commonwealth’s commitment to promoting science and technology as key drivers for sustainable development. The Secretary-General expressed confidence that Dr. Thabet’s expertise and leadership would significantly contribute to bridging the gap in achieving the SDGs by 2030.

Dr. Thabet joins other distinguished leaders, such as Ambassador Amina Mohamed and Professor Dame Carol Black, who have also been appointed as special envoys to champion various global issues within the Commonwealth.
